High-Current Arc Ignition Test Machine is used for evaluating Ignition Performance Level Category as per UL 746A. Any insulating material should resist electrical arcing when a high current tries to make path between a short distance that is only ‘connected’ by insulating surface. This is a requirement as per IEC 60947 - 1, BS EN 60950 - 1 and IEC 60335 - 2 - 40. Thus, it is a basic electrical safety requirement for all components such as cables, or for that matter any device employing an insulation such as polymers or polycarbonates.
This test apparatus is to be used in addition to High-Voltage Inclined Plane Tracking and Erosion Test Equipment

This test is necessary because insulating materials might withstand normal current but fail when a high current accidentally passes. Based on the time to fail up to 300 seconds, UL 746 A categorizes the insulating material.
The SCR ELEKTRONIKS High-Current Arc Ignition Test Machine makes testing as per clause 32 of UL 746A a breeze. It offers a Siemens PLC based control system with all relevant meters on board. It is a cost-effective and yet elegant apparatus for your quality control department. Even the IEC 60947 - 1 clause 8.2.1.1.2 is available as a pre-programmed test procedure – something switchgear manufacturers have come to expect from us. The whole equipment is built in extruded aluminium with multiple fail-safety interlocks.
